When you look at a finished piece of furniture or a timber house, it’s easy to overlook all the work that went into it. That’s the story I wanted to tell with this film: from a tree in the forest, through the sawmill, to Maik Westfahl’s workshop. There, the wood becomes something new, step by step. I had the chance to follow Maik as he worked and show how experience, good ideas and hands-on craftsmanship turn a raw material into something built to last.
